Moriah Rose Pereira is an American singer-songwriter, composer and actress. She is best known for portraying Poppy.

Personal Life

Moriah was born in Whitman, Massachusetts[1] on January 1st, 1995. Her parents are Kathy Chase-Pereira and Keith Pereira. Her siblings are brothers Justin and Ethan Pereira and sister Beccah Pereira.[2] She went to public school when she was young and did not have many friends growing up. Moriah claimed that when she was young, she wanted to be a Rockette and was a dancer for several years. Her father played drums in a punk rock band, and one of her brothers also played drums. She was inspired to become a singer after listening to female-fronted bands such as Blondie and No Doubt. Around the year 2007, Moriah was a member of The Nutcrackers, a roller derby team in the Boston Roller Derby, alongside her sister, Beccah. She lived in Whitman until she was about 14, then moved to the greater Nashville area due to her father's change of job and wanting a new start to their family. When Moriah was 15, she received vocal coaching from Brett Manning, and a year later started uploading covers and original songs to her YouTube channel thatPoppyTV. Sometime in 2013, Moriah had moved to Los Angeles with her close friend Debby Ryan. She initially met Titanic Sinclair through a mutual friend in mid-2014; later that year, she teamed up with him to portray the character Poppy and start her professional music career.

Music Career

2011-2014

Moriah started two YouTube channels, the first one was called "Moriah Poppy" and the other "thatPoppyTV". thatPoppyTV was created on October 6th, 2011, which contained covers and original songs. The Moriah Poppy channel contained more personal content such as vlogs, performance videos and updates. She performed live at small venues such as Playlist Live 2012-2013, Digifest 2013, VidCon 2012, and others. Moriah originally planned to release an extended play (EP) at the end of 2012, which would have been indie and alternative rock-oriented, but this release never materialized. However, she released two original demos titled "Doesn't Mean I'm Wrong" and "What If I". This era's videos have been deleted or privated due to not being consistent with the current Poppy project. Some videos have been lost, but others were archived and found. If one tries to upload one of these videos to sites such as YouTube or Vimeo, the video will most likely be taken down.

2014-present

After bumping into Titanic Sinclair in Los Angeles, they later started the Poppy musical project. She later signed with Island Records and released her debut EP Bubblebath as well as the two singles "Everybody Wants To Be Poppy" and "Adored". She performed several shows to promote Bubblebath; however, the full tour was canceled. In late 2016, Moriah had either been fired from or left Island Records to create less modern-sounding music. She created a label alongside with Titanic called "I'm Poppy Records", releasing the single "I'm Poppy" on the label. Later, she signed with Mad Decent Records, who produced her debut album "Poppy.Computer". She went on two tours to promote her debut album throughout 2017 and 2018. In January 2018, she released a YouTube Red Original titled "I'm Poppy". She also recorded and is planning to release her sophomore album "Am I A Girl?" on October 31st, 2018.
